A good GRP 4 Escort is more than a 360 now
It is amazing how much some of these old / historic rally cars are now. I have been looking at an ex Russel Brooks 3 door cosworth and the prices they are wanting are through the roof £50k. Looked at an ex Brooklands RS 500 car and they want £80k + I am in the market for a historic rally. Lee |

£32,000 for an original RS1800 i would say that was not far out of the ball park! Standard BDA, BDX, BDG engines go for £10,000 + in the rally scene, double that for a work engine by a known name!
The Group 4 prepared rally Escorts go for £25,000 not much done, £40,000 for an average one to £70,000 + for a great one. Totally stupid prices but then again anything retro nd RWD is rocketing in price. Just think the RS1800 was not a well spec'd car, the RS2000 was better and there was nothing in the performance worth mentioning, but the potential was HUGE! Good old days of rallying when the car used were the same as the showroom could sell you and with a RS parts catalogue it was amazing what could be built!! Go buy a 4x4 Citroen C4 or a 4x4 Focus! But i could buy an RS1800, Chevette HSR, Lotus Sunbeam, GT4, GTiR or Cosworth. Big part of the sports problem. Try to buy a decent (not rubbish all original) Lotus Sunbeam below £9000, its not easy and the RS1800 in England is a unicorn, we seem obessed with MK2 Escorts. Go to Italy and the Escort is the poor relation to the 131 Abarth, much better IMHO and just as expensive except you get a ex works car for the same as a run of the mill GP4 Escort here. I had a MK2 1600 Sport and a beak nose X-Pack RS2000 when i was younger, great fun but i preferred my Capri 2.8i Specials, they are not cheap anymore either! |
